Thanks Terry,
yes you’re on
the right track.
I
have been advised that ‘Eden still lists both sugar beet
and Yellow Eckendorf, a yellow mangel type’ &, separately, that
‘the
yellow eckendorf seems to be the mangelwurzel. searching international websites
and getting different answers from seedsavers - it seems to be it.
wurzel is quite common in german,
carrots are wurzels,
and all root-vegies are called
wurzel-gemuese.
even the roots of plants are called
wurzel or wurzelwerk.
but i do not know about the origins.
Thanks to everyone else who has responded,
ExSeedingly,
Mazza

Isn't this the same thing as sugar
beet? Eden used to have this as I grew it one year, very large, very
sweet, terrific animal fodder, Terry

You are
looking for a type of fodder beet. The closest I know is the one available from
Eden Seeds Yellow Eckendorf is a Mangel and wurzel is an old english
word, probably for beet or turnip.
