Hi Tammy

Thank you for your gentle nudge that reminded me to find out more about a melon I have never even heard of. I enquired with a friend on your behalf and his reply is below.

Best regards,
Robyn

Hi Robyn,
So nice to hear from you....hope you are keeping well..
I was smiling when I was reading your email, you've made me nostalgic.
In Bangladesh we call it 'Bangi' and it is widely cultivated along the
vast floodplain of Ganges (In Bangladesh, the river 'Padma', means
Lotus, close to my country town). Shape is similar to
footy-balls...little bit more cylindrical, taste like Honeydew with
similar flavour but less sweetness. But the texture varies with the
varieties...some are crunchy and some are sandy. The later one is
similar to your description.
Seed?.....never have seen here. Probably...no one ever tried to
import....reason I guess, this is one of the cheapest fruits in BD....it
is also called as the fruit for poor.

You know that we all miss you here, why don't you drop in sometime?

Regards
rafiq

Hello Rafiq

A person in our seedsaving group is looking for seeds of the Phut, aka
Snap Melon (Cucumis melo subsp. melo var. momordica).

I was wondering if you are familiar with this melon and if so, whether
you might know where we could obtain some seeds. Apparently it splits
and cracks open at maturity and fluffy stuff like snow escapes through
the crack.

Hope all is well at Bidjiwong.

Fond regards,
Robyn
