Edamame is the name for young soy beans prepared in a certain
way (boiled in salted water). In other words, it's the name of a dish. There
are varieties of soy bean that have been developed/selected specifically for
making edamame, such as Butterbean and Envy and the name of the dish is now
often used to refer to them. So when someone is offering edamame seeds, they
are in fact offering soy beans that are suitable for making
edamame. Ray

Hello, Edamame are young (immature) soy beans picked for
cooking (boiling in salted water usually) in their pods. The pods
themselves are not eaten, just the beans. They are well known in China
& Japan and varieties of soy bean, such as Butterbean and Envy, have
been selected specifically for this purpose. That's about all I know.
Perhaps Annie could add more. Ray
