David, I did a similar thing here in our little community - I produce the free Violet Town monthly newsletter & as well as an article in that, I put a sign up at our local monthly market on my stall asking for anyone interested in forming a seedsavers / organic growing / permaculture group to register their names, did that for a couple of months, then advertised an initial meeting in the next newsletter  and we were off and running.
Since then another free monthly newsheet in a nearby community has begun so now monthly reports, meeting dates etc go into each newsletter rregularly to keep the local communities informed.  We also run an email list as well, and this takes in people  who come to our meetings from further afield .
good luck with it all, terry

Terry and Chris, thanks, I live in Coffs Harbour and am involved with CROPO, we produce over 700 copies of our magazine called JUST ORGANICS and have been putting notices in that and talking to our members at our social meetings.

you need to pick your right event - then have a display with an opportunity to be part of an email list.  places we have had good interest have been at steiner school fetes, and garden festivals. see jude for a manual on how to start and run a seedsavers network
